Insulated Dog Houses
If you are like many dog owners, your best friend probably spends some time outside when you are away. Every pet owner knows that their dog needs shelter when they are outside from the heat, cold, and elements, but many well meaning pet owners purchase dog houses that are not adequately insulated for the climate in which they live. If you live in a climate that has temperature extremes either in the summer or winter, the safest and most comfortable house for your dog is an insulated dog house. It is important to purchase a dog house that matches the climate in which you live; otherwise your dog may not be protected from the heat of the summer or cold of the winter. There are many different materials used to make dog houses, and some are manufactured with insulation and others are not.
An insulated dog house will keep the temperate from rising too high inside the house during the summer by blocking the sun's rays. In the winter, the insulation will prevent the dog house form getting too cold by keeping in your dog's body heat. Insulated dog houses are manufactured in all shapes and sizes so you will easily be able to find one that will suit your dog. While any shape and size will do for an insulated dog house, there are some materials that work better for these types of houses.
Plastic dog houses and dog igloos are popular and for good reason. They are water and insect proof, lightweight, and attractive. Plastic is not the best material for an insulated dog house, however. Plastic does not hold in heat well and does not protect against the sun's hot rays as well as other materials. You can also find dog houses made of metal, either with a metal roof or with an entire metal construction. Metal is the worst material you can choose for an insulated dog house as it is notorious for being too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. Metal is durable, but unless you live in a very temperate climate that does not experience hot summers or cold winters it is not the best choice for a dog house.
Wood is one of the more popular materials for dog houses and it is also the best for insulation purposes. Wood acts as a natural insulator and when coupled with a layer of Styrofoam or other insulator it does a wonderful job of keeping the inside of the dog house at a comfortable temperature. There are many types of wood used to make dog houses and most are suitable for insulation purposes. Pressure treated wood is usually the most durable and some types of wood are naturally insect resistant. You can find wooden dog houses in any shape and size to suit the needs of your dog and it is also easy to find ones that are manufactured with insulation already installed. If you already have a wooden dog house without insulation, you can easily use a layer of Styrofoam or other insulation and plywood to insulate your dog's home.

From Mud Kennels to Modern Day Insulated Dog Houses and Crates
Taking good care of your pet is essential to its health and well-being. Dogs have been used by man as companions, guard animals, a source of food and fur, a beast of burden, hunting scout, a set of eyes, to sniff our harmful substances and the list goes on. You have the responsibility to keep your pet fed and sheltered. A dog crate is one of the best ways to house train a canine and is also a great den for your pet. An insulated dog house offers warmth in the cold weather and protection against the heat in the summer months. Our pets ask for little and will give one hundred fold in return. Dogs will work long and hard to please their master even when they are exhausted.
Scientists, who have studied the orphaned wolf-cubs, have concluded that humans would adopt the orphaned wolf cubs and nurse them alongside their human babies. Because man took the cubs and nurtured them, the wolves became domesticated animals. Once the adopted wolf cubs bred amongst themselves they became more like what we know as the domestic canine. The humans would keep the most social and least fearful wolf cubs for pets. In order to keep them contained around their homes, dens or kennels were constructed.
As far back as 4500 BC in Egypt, dogs were trained and kept for the use of man. A dog crate, or insulated dog house did not exist at that period of time and is has been speculated that homes for these early dogs were constructed of mud. They were much like the natural den that the canines would have constructed for themselves in the wild. Insulated dog houses and dog crates of today are made of sturdy materials and constructed to offer comfort as well as protection against the elements.
Man knew that in order to prevent the cubs from returning to the wild that he had to construct some type of enclosure. Over the years, we have developed many different structures to contain our special companions. The best structure for your dog will depend upon his size. An insulated dog house is one of the best ways to protect an outdoor pet from the extreme heat and cold seasons that exist in many climates. Dog crates are a great way to replicate the canine den in our busy world. There are many choices for you to choose from in today's market. Choose one that will best suit the needs of your pet and offer him the comfort, safety and security that he deserves.

Designing and Constructing a Large Wooden Dog House
Wooden dog houses are among some of the most popular types of houses that are available. Perhaps one of the reasons why this is the case, is because they are the easiest for the common homeowner or do-it-yourselfer to build. There may be times, however, whenever you would like to build a large wooden house that is quite luxurious and perhaps contains a number of different options that make it more like a regular house than a house for a dog. Here are some things to keep in mind whenever building wooden dog houses such as this.
One of the first things to consider is whether you're going to be drawing up the plans yourself or if you are going to be purchasing one of the kits that are available. Many people will choose one of these kits, simply because it has everything that you will need in order to get the job done. The only thing that it does take out of the equation, unfortunately, is that you do not have as much leeway as far as being creative with the building project. If you were to add something such as stairs or perhaps a wooden dog house balcony, you would need to design this into the kit and then add the materials necessary in order to do it.
That is why it is a much better idea for you to build wooden houses and to plan them from the start on your own. It does not need to have some great architectural drawings in order for it to be exactly what you need it to be. Just a rough idea of the sizes, perhaps even drawn to scale so that you are able to see on paper how much room is going to be available for the pet inside. If you're adding luxury items to the inside or outside of the dog house, these should also be included on the plans and you should make room for them whenever purchasing the items in advance for the house.
A large wooden dog house is something that is probably going to be more beneficial to you as the builder that it is going to be to the dog. The unfortunate reality about these larger houses is the fact that most animals won't really spend much of their time in any more than a small portion of the house. They won't enjoy the inside and outside features that are available, but that doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with you enjoying building them.
You might even find that there is a market for these wooden dog houses in your area, especially if you are able to do an excellent job on building one for yourself. A large wooden dog house is going to be in demand, and although there are always going to be freebies that are available, these will not stand against the customized jobs that you may be able to do. You might just find that you are building these houses for many dogs, not just your own.

Homemade Dog House Building Guide
So, you've made the decision to try your hand at dog house building, but you're a bit unsure about the right way to go from here, right? Don't worry, it's a lot easier to build a great dog house than what you think! This article is a general guide to building a dog house.
Choose The Right Size
First things first, you need to decide on the size and design of your homemade dog house. You may think you already know how big it needs to be, but many people don't realise all the great options available.
There are 3 main designs:
- A medium dog house for small and mid-sized dogs, such as Dachshunds and Bull Terriers.
- A large, premium dog house for big dogs like German Shepherds and Golden Retrievers.
- A duplex dog house, so 2 or more of the little guys can sleep snuggled up together!
Even if you currently only have one small dog, consider building a kennel that is bigger than you require. You never know when you might get another dog!
Dog House Design Tips
If you really love your dog, there are a few small things you should do to ensure s/he is comfortable and happy inside her/his new home.
Here are a few tips:
- Make sure the floor is raised a few inches from the ground so ensure good air circulations. Dogs are particularly sensitive to heat.
- The floor should also be slanted slightly towards to door so that any water that might get in with quickly run out.
- Consider building an overhanging roof so that your dog is protected from strong winds and heavy rains.
- Build the roof with some hinges on the edges to make it easier to clean! Genius!
Dog House Plans Download
There are a whole heap of places on the internet that will let you download building plans. Unfortunately, not all plans are created equal, and most sites only provide basic, boring plans.

There are Fas tags which start off large, to allow you to comfortably write your information on the tag, then they shrink in your oven in approximately 5 minutes, to form a lightweight, durable ID tag that is perfect for small pets. There are military style ID tags which display five lines of emergency information. Hydrant pet name tags which are designed in the shape of hydrants and made plastic and metal. You can even implant a micro chip into them so if anything were to happen you could easily tracked your pet.
Fashion aside dog tags do play a more crucial role than just a fashion statement and how much their owners love them. Its their Identification and their way home. Sadly, there are thousands of dogs that go missing every year and cannot be returned to their owners because they lack proper ID. Dogs don't speak, so its impossible to find out who their owners are or where they come from without any form of ID. This is what makes a dog's ID tags so important, its a way of ensuring lost pets to be returned to its' home as quickly as possible.

The information on the tag is very crucial and should be easy to read; it usually contains the dog's name, owners contact number, and sometimes the home address. There are many personalization styles available on the market, but be sure to not buy cheap plastic tags. These often end up as chew toys for your dog, thus ruining the tag and rendering its info useless.
If you really love your dog then it 's pretty clear why you need a dog tag: to protect our companion and make sure they can be returned home safely. If your anything like me, than a dog is more than a just pet, but a member of the family. You wouldn't want your baby sister wandering around lost, would you? So its important to make sure that your dog is always wearing its ID tag, Can you imagine how scared and lost your dog would be if it couldn't find its way home, back to its warm house and to the people it cared most about. Now that would be a scary!

Fish Oils For Dogs
Giving your dog fish oils is one of the things that can really help your dog's health, that many people don't think about. Dogs need many different kinds of fats to stay healthy. A great source of natural fats is fish oils. These can also be useful for curing different kinds of illnesses and allergies. Fish oils can be found very cheaply and promote great health.
Omega-3 fatty acids are the most common type of fish oils you can find. These fats have a wide array of control over various bodily functions. The most important is the control of inflammation responses. This is what makes them such a good treatment for dog allergies. They can also help out greatly in your pets immune and nervous systems.
I'm also sure you have heard of many great health benefits of taking omega-3 oils for yourself. All of these health benefits you could have also apply to your dog. The many benefits of putting fatty oils in your dogs diet include lowering the chance of heart failure, cancer, and kidney diseases.
Curing skin allergies is also a great benefit of omega-3 oils for dogs. It will clear up the dry skin and raw hairless patches. Your dogs skin will stop being irritated and will stop biting and scratching.
In the natural environment of a dog they would be eating things very different from dry dog food. Raw meat, fish, eggs, poultry and many other meals they no longer eat would all be part of their diet. All of these foods contain oils that are very similar to these fatty oils. Their dry dog food is made out of processed corn and doesn't have any kind of healthy fatty oil in it at all.

Homemade Dog Costumes
More and more, our dogs are being treated like children rather than animals. One manifestation of this is that homemade dog costumes are now produced every year for "Howloween" events around the country.
You have probably seen various dog costumes that you can buy at places that sell dog stuff. These are good if you have limited time to make something and your dog is small. However, if you have a medium size or larger dog, the choices seem much more limited.
Also, many of the Halloween or other dog costume party events have contests for the Best or Most Creative costume. If you can put together a dog outfit yourself, your dog stands a better chance of winning a prize and receiving compliments.
Furthermore, although simple dog costumes can be inexpensive, more elaborate ones can set you back quite a bit. With a little imagination and the right materials, you can make homemade dog costumes for much less that are every bit as stunning as the most glitzy ones out there.
Remember that you do not have to make homemade dog costumes from scratch. You can buy a basic ensemble and then simply add your own touches. These could include:
Beads
Bows
Buttons
Crepe paper
Fake fur
Felt pieces
Gauzy materials
Metal rings
Pipe cleaners
Ribbons, lace or trim
Sequins or glitter
Wigs
and many other items that you glue or sew on.
One of the most important things is getting the right fit so that your homemade dog costume not only looks good but also does not irritate your dog by interfering with his or her ability to walk, sit or lie down. This requires measuring your pet carefully and being prepared to return readymade items to the store, if necessary.
If you are putting together attire from scratch, make things larger than they need to be and have your pooch try on the creation while it is still pinned together rather than sewn. Avoid accidentally poking your dog or you may have trouble getting your dog to wear anything further!
What about accessories? Some dog costumes need just the right type of hat or mask for the best effect. These can be made quite simply using a cardboard base covered with paper or fabric.
Often you only need the costume to last for a day so you can use a lightweight cardboard such as that found in cereal boxes. For round hats, use lids from plastic containers as a template or take the cardboard top from an oatmeal box.
First measure your dog's head between the ears or around the eyes so that you make a hat or mask that is the correct size. Then draw a pattern on paper and try it on the dog before transferring your design to cardboard.
After you have decorated the hat or mask with the coverings of your choice, add elastic in such a way that they stay in place without hurting your pet.
Booties can also easily be made. Simply create a sleeve that is closed at one end and use elastic to hold it on around the leg. Instead of things that cover the paws, a better option may be to add anklets or leg warmers that are slipped onto your dog's legs above the paws.
If you have rushed to put together a homemade dog costume, be sure to try it all out on your dog before you head out the door. Shiny fabric may need to be ironed for the best effect and some things may need to be reglued.
Above all, remember that dressing up your dog should be FUN for both of you. If you get too stressed out making something, it will defeat the purpose of the activity.
If your dog is not overjoyed with wearing a costume, choose something that can be put on and off quickly - enough for a photo op or short display.
Wishing you all the best in making homemade dog costumes!

Summer nowadays is insanely hot, and this can cause your dog to feel uneasy and worst, they can get sick because of dehydration. Thus a properly insulated dog house is what you should buy for your dog to keep them comfortable inside their house.

Dog House Training Essentials
For many people, training a dog is not an easy task. At first, your pooch might be too stubborn to abide by your orders. You may even think that your canine friend is incapable of understanding your instructions. Well, you are wrong. The master and the pet's relationship becomes stronger when the owner devotes enough time, care and love for his/her pet. The dog develops a sense of trust for its master the moment it discovers how much it is loved. Dogs may not understand its owner's commands at first, but with the help of hand signs, rewards and helpful training materials, the dog will definitely be accustomed to the commands its owner have been giving.
Getting nervous? Don't be. This article will give you some dog house training advices. You don't need to be a genius to teach your dogs how to do be perfect pets for at home, all you need are a few gadgets, teeming patience and lots of love.
Here are the things you might need while training your dog:
o Timer- A timer is a tool that will allow you to count the minutes your dog has been doing a certain routine. According to vets, a dog that is continuously playing fetch or walking non-stop for an hour is already tired, but will not show signs until all the energy in its body is drained. A dog only stops if it is extremely tired. As the owner, you must utilize a timer so you will know if your pet is tired enough to move.
o Treats- Food is probably the best treat you can reward your pooch during dog house training. Actually, dogs love food, and encouraging them to do their best with food in bite sizes can give them a hint that once they do well, they will be instantly rewarded. But a food is definitely useless if you will not accompany the reward with remarks and gestures such as patting the dog on the head while saying "good dog".
o Pee pads- These are pads that absorbs a dog's urine every time it chooses to pee in an inappropriate place. This thing is helpful especially if you are training your canine friend to urinate in a suitable place (like on the toilet bowl or outside the house). You will not be having a hard time to clean the surface where it urinated once a pee pad is placed on it. Now that avoids your carpet in getting soaked by urine.
Above all, the key to success in teaching your pooches is to be patient. You may have to go about the training over and over again until your dog gets what you want it to do. Keeping calm amidst the wrong habits can positively encourage your dog to decipher the right thing to do. Talk to your pooch as if it is human. The tone of your voice can help your canine understand if you are delighted or poignant with what it has done. Be lively in praising the pooch and be firm when you are lecturing it. Best of all, depend on that love you have on your dog in order to inspire you to be patient during your dog house training.
