Canine Heart Worms and Your Dog's Health

With Spring and Summer just around the bend, we need to address a commonly overlooked health problem for your pet, that of canine heart worms. While heart worms is one of the most devastating bugs that might threaten your dog, the biggest concern is that many pet owners do not know how these parasites are contracted, how they are spread, and how to get rid of them.

Canine heart worms are not spread from dog to dog simply by contact, but are mostly transferred through contaminated blood being passed around by mosquitoes. Once heart worms are injected by the mosquito into the dog's blood stream, they travel through the blood stream into the heart and the major pulmonary blood vessels. The number of dogs that become infected with heart worms always increases during the height of mosquito season, and unfortunately the mosquito seasons have been getting worse each year as well.

There are different stages of heart worm development, juvenile and adult. As the heart worms grow from juvenile to adult, they will start to cause damage to the heart and surrounding tissues and can even block or clog major arteries and blood vessels. When these clogs form the blood flow to other organs is reduced. This may cause problems for the liver, kidneys and lungs, leading to organ failure.

Sadly, by the time the illness starts to show signs in the dog, it is in the advanced stage. Several factors that affect these signs are, the quantity and location of the worms, how much damage has been done, and the length of time being infected. The most noticeable outward appearance of heart worms is a sudden and unexplained weight reduction in your pet

Symptoms of canine heart worm infestations are often worse after your dog exercises. These include shortness of breath, loss of stamina, nervousness, or sudden fainting.

There are treatments available for canine heart worms, but these can be quite expensive and could have some serious side effects. Heart worms can often be preventable by administering heart worm medicine to your pet every month. To stop this terrible illness in your dog, be certain to keep your dog's regular vet appointments.

As usual, talk to your vet if you have any worries that your dog might have heart worms, and never attempt to treat the illness on your own. Always consult a properly qualified pro before beginning any sort of treatments on your dog.

Some Secrets to Building a Dog Kennel With Dog Kennel Plans

I almost ended up in the dog house when I brought home an old stray dog that I just about hit when I was returning home from work one day. You should have seen the look on my wife's face when I showed her what I had found. She finally agreed that I could keep the dog providing that it would be kept outside at all times. I agreed and set about looking for dog kennel plans on the internet.

I was amazed at the number of plans and options that were available for building houses for dogs. After spending a lot of time going through my options I finally settled on some plans that looked easy to build and with very little cash outlay for materials.

One thing that you need to consider when building the dog house is the size of the dog itself. You want to make sure that the dog will have an ample amount of room to stand up when the dog is in the house. You also want to make sure that doorway is large enough for him it get in and out of.

Depending on where you live you want to make sure that the floor of the dog house remain dry at all times and that you install some sort of a door that easy for the dog to go through. This is especially true for unfavorable climate conditions.

Materials are another important consideration. Pressure treated wood is out for any part of the dog house that the dog may come in contact with. Make sure that these areas have materials that will not harm the dog if it is a dog that tends to chew everything in sight.

You may also want to consider fencing in a good size run for the dog so he can get some exercise if left for long periods of time.

Announcing 6 Different Ways You Can Make Money Working With Dogs

One of the easiest low-cost ways to make money with dogs is offering a dog walking service. This type of business is especially popular in urban areas. You can offer this in suburban areas but it will require more travel time. A dog walking service will require insurance and bonding. Check with your local agent for rates.

Starting a pet sitting service is another opportunity for you to explore. A pet sitting service does not require the overhead that businesses that need a physical location do. You go from house to house taking care of the pets in their own home. This service has become very popular as many dog owners do not like leaving their dogs in kennels.

Dog training is a very popular business and also has low start up costs. This will require some training on your part. You'll have to learn how to train dogs before you can start in business. There are many schools in the United States that offer this. There are also on-line courses and organizations. An excellent organization for anyone wanting to learn about becoming a dog trainer is the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.

If you have photography skills there are a lot of pet owners that will pay to have professionally done pictures. You can approach shelters, dog trainers, dog groomers, kennel owners pet stores, etc. and ask to have a pet photography day in their place of business. It helps promote their business and it is an easy way for you to get started. Pet photos with Santa is a very popular event around Christmas time.

Dog daycare has become hugely popular. I opened my first dog daycare with less than a $1000. I found a good location with low rent and started. Once I had the dog daycare running successfully I included dog training and grooming. It is a little more labor intensive than some of the other suggestions but it can be a very profitable business.

Making home made dog cookies has become a big business. There are now dog bakeries that offer a huge selection of baked goods for dogs. Gourmet dog cookies, cakes and pastries are offered. You could supply the bakeries or package your own.

With a little imagination and some work you could easily apply yourself to some of the suggestions offered in this article. In a short time you could be working with dogs and developing an income stream that puts money in your pocket and bank account.

Free Large Dog House Plans - As They Say, You Get What You Pay For

Having any kind of pet inside is a lot of work. But having a large dog inside can be an even bigger challenge, specially if they are not house trained. You end up with furniture being chewed up, things knocked over and off of tables with their powerful wagging tails, and even worse than that, if they aren't potty trained to let you know when they need to go outside, your house will smell like dog piss. And the larger the dog, more dog hair will be shedded all over everything in the house.

Even with these problems, it is hard for most dog owners to not want the family dog inside with them at all times. However, you will find if you build them the right type of doghouse that will keep them warm and dry and put their favorite toys in their with them, they will be quite happy with their own bedroom, so to speak.

You can go to your local pet store and buy a pre-built dog house, but you will spend a small fortune and may not have exactly what you want. You can also go online and check out the free large dog house plans. Beware though that if you go for one of the free dog house plans, you may only be getting a detailed drawing and possibly a material list, thus you get what you pay for. However, if you are willing to spend a few bucks you can get a good set of plans designed by a professional, which will include a complete material list, cut sheets, and step by step instructions.

By getting a good set of dog house plans, you will have a complete list of materials in order to budget your project. Take the list to two or three of your local lumber yards and get prices. You may find you can save at least 10% on your materials by doing just this. The cut sheets that come with your set of plans is also a major help. They will show you exactly how to cut your pieces of wood (length and angles). This will definitely save you time and probably a little money too by not having to scrap pieces that aren't cut correctly.

When choosing the wood to build your dog house, keep in mind that pressure treated wood is not safe for you dog if he is a chewer. You can however use it for the frame work of the dog house because your dog won't have access to it. Pressure treated wood is full of chemicals which eliminates rot and insect damage and could make your dog sick if ingested. For the exterior and interior walls, you have two choices, use natural wood or a composite type material. When you are ready to paint, it is recommended to use a good quality sealer and exterior enamel paint, it will last longer and be easier to keep clean.

If you live in a cold climate, you may want to insulate the walls and to choose the right size dog house. You want your dog to be able to move around comfortably, but you don't want too much extra space inside. If the dog house is too large, it will be hard to keep warm with your dogs body heat. If you are in a hot climate, having a larger and more roomy dog house makes sense. You want to make sure there is plenty of ventilation and shade to protect your dog from getting over heated.

Shiver;Chapter 5//part 5

5th part of Chapter 5 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Did you kill him? I whispered. He didnt disappear at the sound of my voice, as I had expected. He was still as a statue, his eyes watching my face instead of the meat in my hand. Its all they can talk about on the news, I said, as if he could understand. They called it savage. They said wild animals did it. Did you do it? He stared at me for a minute longer, motionless, and unblinking. And then, for the first time in 6 years, he closed his eyes. It went against every natural instinct a wolf should have possessed. A lifetime of an unblinking gaze, and now he was frozen in almost-human grief, brilliant eyes closed, head ducked and tail lowered. It was the saddest thing I had ever seen. Slowly, barely moving, I approached him, afraid only of saving him away, not of his scarlet-stained lips or the teeth they hid. His ears flicked, acknowledging my presence, but he didnt move. I crouched, dropping the meat on to the snow beside me. he flinched as he landed. I was close enough to smell the wild odor of his coat and feel the warmth of his breath. Then I did what I had always wanted to I put a hand to his dense ruff, and when he didnt flinch, I buried both my hands in his fur. His outer coat was not soft as it looked, but beneath the coarse guard hair was a layer of downy fluff. With a low groan, he pressed his head against me, eyes still closed. I held him as if he were no more ...

How to Build a DogHouse - 3 Tips to Build a Dog House Easily

Building a doghouse sounded like an easy enough task - The sort of thing that you get down in an afternoon while deciding on a serious bit of woodworking to tackle. A week of hard grind later, there are some things that I wish I had thought about before starting. These three things would have made building my doghouse a breeze rather than a grind.

1:Get proper plans
I know this seems obvious, after all what other project would you start without plans right? I thought "it's only a doghouse, who needs doghouse plans?". A good set of plans will cut down your work time dramatically and save you wasting material (and money).

2:Get proper plans
Consult the plans before you buy your material. By guessing about how much wood I needed, I spent over twice as much as I needed to. I also went back to the DIY store three times to get things I only realised that I would need half way through.

3:Think the project all the way through before starting
On day two of my doghouse build I had to take apart what I had already done, ruining some good lumber in the process simply because I hadn't considered the floor of the construction. If I had taken the time to get decent plans and read through them first, I could have avoided this. Believe me, there is nothing more frustrating than having to take apart something which you have made, especially when the initial construction involved sweat, tears and hammer blows to various fingers!

Dog House Plans - Do it Yourself

I couldn't believe the look on my wife's face when I brought home that poor old mutt. She wasn't very happy with me that day but I don't blame her since I just brought him home without even talking to her about it. After reasoning with her the dog began to grow on her and she agreed to keep him as long he stayed out of the house. I was feeling for him hard now that we was going to have to sleep outside. That's when I decided to look into some dog house plans and build my new buddy a shelter.

I was absolutely amazed at how many different designs there were for building a home for a pooch. With careful consideration I made a decision on which would be best. I then got my tools and materials together and began my new project.

If you're looking out for your dog and only want the best for him don't do a poor quality job. Take your time and put your care into the project. A sturdy frame built from descent rated material will hold up for a much longer period of time than something built in a hurry. Can you imagine what it would feel like to walk outside and see all of your hard work in ruins just because you didn't build it right? It is very important to make your structure sturdy and able to withstand years of what the planet may throw at it. It is recommended to pressure treat the material you use in order to make it last for years.

Dogs tend to have all sorts of different characteristics. There just like people in the fact that no two dogs are the same. So when building your doggy house take note of any bad habits the dog may have. Some dogs will chew anything and that may include a pressure treated dog house. If he's a chewer you may want to look into a different type of material that isn't coated in harmful chemicals. If your pet doesn't have this issue pressure treated wood is definitely the way to go, but not if it effects your pets health.

The seasons can also have a huge effect on your dog. It gets pretty cold in the winter time where I live so I plan on putting a few blankets in there to keep him warm for the cold season. Also if you live in an area where it gets really hot during the summer you should be sure that the dog can get plenty of air otherwise the temperatures could get really high turning that dog house into a doggy oven.

Building a Small Backyard Chicken Coop - Things to Consider First

We probably all agree that there is nothing better than farm fresh eggs, not only in the morning but also as a great additional to everyday cooking and baking. With that being said, how far will you travel for your "farm fresh eggs"?

If you are reading this article then you have already given some thought to building a small backyard chicken coop of your very own so that you only have to walk right outside your door. But, like everyone you have a few questions before you jump in feet first. Good thinking! Let's explore some important factors in building a small backyard chicken coop.

Building your own coop can be a very rewarding adventure but let's talk about what to consider before you begin.

1. Ordinances. Check with your city first to make sure there is no ordinance against building a chicken coop in your neighborhood. This is a big one, there is nothing worse then going through the trouble of building a small backyard chicken coop and purchasing chickens only to find out....you can't have them.

2. Space. How much space is needed? How many chickens do you hope to house? How big does the structure have to be? This will be a big factor in your hen house plans. Make sure you consider this before getting your feet wet.

3. Where? Where will you build your chicken coop? Designate a place, consider how far from the house, and if you want a portable chicken coop?

4. Climate. Consider your climate. Are you going to need to insulate your chicken coop for cold nights and/or winter months? Or do you need to keep the coop cool during hot spells?

Now that you have explored some basic thoughts on chicken coop construction, let talk about what kinds of chickens you will be boarding.

5. Breed. What breed of chicken will you raise? Things to consider: what climate you live in; do you want your chickens to rear baby chicks? How often do you want your chickens to lay eggs? Do you prefer a colorful assortment of eggs?

6. Protection. How will you protect your precious egg supply and chickens from predators and/or dogs? No one wants to chase Fido around the yard while he has a chicken in his mouth.

7. Maintenance. How will you clean your chicken coop? A sloped floor a great solution to this problem, making it easy to spray down and clean up fast.

8. Ventilation. How will you ventilate your coop? Air circulation is a must. Not only for the health of the bird, but also for any odors that may come from the coop.

9. Feeding. How will you feed your chickens? You'll need to consider that you need easy access to feed and water your birds. Will this be an outside run? Will an outside run work in your climate?

10. Light. And finally, what is the light source? You will need to see inside your coop and give your chickens some natural light themselves.

Once you have answered the above concerns, you are now you are ready to begin building a small backyard chicken coop! Before you begin, check around your yard and see if there is any recycled material such as left over wood from old construction projects, or wooden pallets that can be used. If you already have an out building such as an old dog house, garage or barn on your property you maybe that much father ahead already (this can be a very money management way to build your coop.)

There you go, now what are you waiting for? Your very own "farm fresh egg" producing chicken coop is just around the corner. Most people are often surprised that chicken coops are very little maintenance and require very little supervision given the right housing. But you have done your homework and are on the right path.

Great Reasons to Use a Dog House Plan

I always thought that constructing a dog house was a simple enough project to complete successfully. And I was correct. However, for me personally, working with a dog house plan made all the difference between a perfect dog house and a not very good one.

Should you consider creating a dog house, I strongly recommend that you get a very good plan that will help you plan for your venture then bring it through. It just does not sound right to commit time and spend money to collect constructing supplies then develop a model and build the dog house on the fly.

I did think about making my very own personal dog house design and supplies list, then dedicate a few days to constructing the project. After all I had done it before with some other do-it-yourself woodworking project although not all of them came out good.

So for my dog house project I decided to work with a purchased dog house plan and I was delighted to note that I saved a lot of time, some money and irritation. I really felt like having a professional woodworker by my side to lead me throughout my project.

My plan provided an extensive list of the constructing supplies and hardware I would need. This allowed me to plan properly and to get all supplies ahead of time. Being that well organized made the job go without problems.

I will certainly never get an award regarding my style and design skills, and I have to admit I am bad on the subject of project planning. I have a tendency to cut corners as well as not work the details any time I come to a snag throughout a project. Therefore, right after choosing to build a dog house, I needed to ensure the job would go efficiently and I would stay within my planned budget. Also, I wanted to restrict my visits to the hardware store. As it turned out, I bought all the things that was required in a single trip.

Something I liked a lot about using a good dog house plan is that I could get familiar with each and every step I would have to take, so I was able to minimize any kind of unexpected situations on the way.

Without the plan, I might have chosen the wrong kind of wood which could have resulted in my dog getting very ill or I might not have thought to use a non toxic paint.

Beside saving time and money, working with a dog house plan allows you to make some changes directly on the plan instead of having to redo your own design from scratch.

Also, do-it-yourself projects must be pleasant as well as gratifying. You wish to be pleased with your work whenever you complete any woodworking project.

Whether you are an expert carpenter or a beginner, my advice is to get good quality woodworking plans for any project you wish to accomplish, plan ahead and get all the required supplies in advance to facilitate your work.

Good luck with your project

Duplex Dog Houses

Are you a person that currently has more than one dog living at home? If you are then you might want to seriously consider investing in duplex dog houses. While many dog owners let their pets live indoors, things can get a little bit complicated with more than one dog playing inside all day. Some people have turned to caging their animals but many people, especially home owners with fenced in back yards, choose to let their dogs run free outside during the day. This might be a great alternative to cages but what do you do when your dogs are hot, tired, and in need of a place to rest?

A dog house might seem like a great option until you start thinking of the price of purchasing two separate dog houses. There are cheap dog houses available in many pet stores and all over the internet but do you really want something cheap and ugly in your back yard? A cheap dog house can be an eye sore and two cheap dog houses are even more of an eye sore Instead of wasting money on two unattractive dog houses invest some money into a custom built duplex dog houses.

Duplex dog houses are a beautiful creation that combines two dog houses. Duplex dog houses are basically one house with two separate entrances and living spaces. This will give each of your dogs their own special area where they can rest in comfort protected from the heat, cold, wind, and rain. Also, duplex dog houses are much more visually appealing to most home owners who have to choose between a duplex dog house and purchasing two separate dog houses.

Custom duplex dog houses can be expensive when compared to the average, ready made, dog houses available on the market. While price and budgets should always be taken into consideration remember that you always get exactly what you pay for. Do you really want something that looks cheap taking up a good deal of space in your back yard? Having a custom duplex dog house will be well worth the money and a great long term investment.

Investing in a custom built dog house means that you will have control over the entire look and feel of the finished dog house. This means that you will be able to choose the colors and material used for construction. Now you can have a dog house that matches your own home or the items in you yard like furniture. You will also be able to choose building material that will help make the duplex dog house comfortable and secure for your dogs.

Custom duplex dog houses are made with the highest quality materials available. You, the buyer, will be able to decide what woods are used in the final construction. This will help ensure that the final cost is not anything more than what you can afford while also giving you the chance to pick out high quality material that will be showcased in your yard for years to come. You will also be able to choose what colors of high quality paint should be used on the final construction and will have the option of using wood and materials that have been treated to withstand mold and mildew.

Whitmans Daughter Ive never seen anyone as sweet smelling as this girl. I told George. It was raining outside when I first saw her in the barn, Huntington, Walt Whitmans birthplace on the long islands, the udders of Lord Krishnas cows that he squeezed to fill his shiny buckets full with milk, honey and moonlight bruised lust and lethal longing spilling into the cosmic mouth wherein galaxies multiplied in long sleek blades of his catalogues throbbing like salmon in the sweet waters of the Cold Spring Harbor. Yes, it was raining when I again saw her in the crowded barn looking bar and next moment found myself up close as my withering skin to my soul. Lilacs bloomed outside and a small wooden cradle rocked by an empty bed in his house an endless count of the racing hours of my youth. Frank Zappa & Captain Beefheart - Debra Kadabra [live]

Frank Zappa (December 21, 1940 December 4, 1993) was an American composer, electric guitarist, record producer, and film director. In a career spanning more than 30 years, Zappa wrote rock, jazz, electronic, orchestral, and musique concrète works. He also directed feature-length films and music videos, and designed album covers. Zappa produced almost all of the more than 60 albums he released with the band Mothers of Invention and as a solo artist. In his teens, he acquired a taste for percussion-based avant-garde composers such as Edgard Varèse and 1950s rhythm and blues music. He began writing classical music in high school, while at the same time playing drums in rhythm and blues bands—he later switched to electric guitar. He was a self-taught composer and performer, and his diverse musical influences led him to create music that was often impossible to categorize. His 1966 debut album with the Mothers of Invention, Freak Out!, combined songs in conventional rock and roll format with collective improvisations and studio-generated sound collages. His later albums shared this eclectic and experimental approach, irrespective of whether the fundamental format was one of rock, jazz or classical. He wrote the lyrics to all his songs, which—often humorously—reflected his iconoclastic view of established social and political processes, structures and movements. He was a strident critic of mainstream education and organized religion, and a forthright and passionate advocate for ...

Building a Secured Door For Your Dog House

The best way of taking care of your beloved dog doesn't only include giving your pet the right food and keeping its body clean. If you want your pet to stay outside your house and guard you house, you have to provide your pet a decent shelter to protect it against harsh weather like extreme heat, rain, or snow. Shelter for your dog outside your house means dog house.

Below is the list of the basic parts and features of a dog house you have to keep in mind.

1. Door - make a strong and sturdy door for your dog to give the pet the optimum weather protection and additional safety from other possible harsh elements outside its house. Your door should be easy to open and close for your dog.

A good door can cancel weather elements out, consider the structure the house and its door. A small door on the other hand enables elements of bad weather to get trapped inside easily and may cause dampness and will later accommodate molds and mildew in your dog's bed. This is not good for your dog's health as it can cause major allergies and other serious respiratory problems.

2. Foundation - this should be strong and sturdy too. You can use plastic material for your dog house door, plastic can withstand harsh weather longer than wood, it does not absorb moisture and is easier to clean and maintain.

You can also opt for a transparent plastic door, this enables your pet to see outside.

3. Extra comfort - before you actually build your dog house, consider the size of your dog, the house should not be too big nor too small for your pet. Dogs don't feel very comfortable if its house is too small, it can also be bad for your pet in hot weather.

Too big of a dog house, on the other hand, will not protect your pet from cold weather, as its body can not heat the shelter entirely and may cause health problems for your dog. You can provide blankets and mats inside for extra comfort.

CSULB Economic Stabilization Act Panel Discussion

Housing prices are crashing. Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, and Washington Mutual, have been acquired for pennies on the dollars. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are under Federal Government conservatorship. US Commercial banks have tightened lending standards, and a credit crunch threatens global financial markets. All of this stokes fears of an economic slowdown that many believe could result in a deep recession for the US and the rest of the world. The US Treasury Department and the Federal Reserve Board developed a plan for a $700 billion bailout of Wall Street, and this bailout will be discussed by a panel of experts on the CSULB campus. The panel will discuss what caused the crisis, what the bailout means, what the implications of the bailout are, and how Main Street, not just Wall Street, is affected.

Removing Stains From Carpet

You would be surprised at so many highly unlikely things one could use while removing stains from carpet. Most of these are available in your bathrooms and kitchens. Some stains, however, may be a bit more stubborn, but there are quite a few specialized stain removers out there that can make removing stains from carpet a no hassles job.

Firstly, it is important to understand types of stains. Stains can generally be classified as water-based (juices, alcohol, vomit, milk, clay, cologne, Latex paints, fruits, beer or blood,); oil based (ink, crayons, cosmetics, grease, gravy) and a category called special water based stains (coffee, tea and urine). The last category is called so since these are difficult stains to remove in terms of their color and odor. Generally the same product or method can be used for removing stains from carpet from the same category.

There are quite a lot of things that you use daily which can also come in quite handy while removing stains from carpet. For example:

o Shaving cream/lotion: Foaming shaving lotion or cream can come in quite handy while removing mud stains from a carpet. It also works quite well on most other types of stains - water based and oil based.

o Vaseline: Oil based stains from cosmetics - especially lipsticks-can be 'loosened' by rubbing Vaseline or petroleum jelly. When you feel satisfied, scoop up the jelly and wash the spot with a solution of dishwashing detergent and water.

o WD40: This is quite a cure-all for removing stains from carpet. If you get chewing gum, tar or wax on the carpet, dab some WD40 and out it comes. It takes a few applications, but is much faster than any other method.

o Neutrogena shampoo: This might seem expensive, but it's a good way to take off stains made by pastel chalks, crayons and possibly other oil based colors too.

o Baby wipes or diapers: In the process of removing stains from carpet, if the carpet gets quite wet, then use baby diapers to blot up the dampness. They're super absorbent, and make less of a mess than regular blotting paper. Ensure you keep a little weight on the diaper to help it do its job.

How Will First Lady Michelle Obama Re-Decorate the White House?

While the media has brought up the personal side of the transition into the White House and discussed the kid's picking of the "First Dog" or Presidential Puppy, maybe it's time to discuss how Michelle Obama might decorate the White House? No doubt this is of interest to many Americans and the interior designer profession.

Will she choose a more traditional look, will she enlist Martha Stewart's assistance, as Martha Stewart did endorse President Barack Obama prior to the election with much of the same kind words as Oprah did. Will Mrs. Obama, The United States' First Lady wish to put more color into the interior ambiance of the White House, and give it a little pizzazz?

Indeed, the Obama's are a young couple and they may like a White House with a little more personality, than the traditional old pastel look? There will be window shades to dress, colors to choose and furniture to pick out. It's a huge job and if you do not believe it, simply read some of the comments of other First Lady's who spent countless hours choosing how best to re-decorate it.

Perhaps the interior rooms are the wrong color and need more Earth Tones, that might be more to Michelle Obama's liking? It will certainly be interesting to see just how our new First Lady Elect Michelle Obama chooses to re-decorate. And you can bet whatever she chooses will be big news in the major media as the Obama's settle into their new home. How Will First Lady Michelle Obama Re-Decorate the White House? Please think on this.
